A classic European variety known for its elongated shape, russeted skin, and sweet, spicy flavor. The fruit has firm, dense flesh that holds up well in baking, but is also excellent for fresh eating when fully ripe. Bosc is not self-fertile and requires a compatible pollinator for good fruit production. Fruit ripens in late summer to early fall and store well after harvest. It requires about 800 to 1,000 chilling hours.
