Hands-on Horticulture Internships

Internship program
Hands-on experience in all aspects of ornamental and landscape tree production is at the heart of the J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. internship program.
Our structured horticulture practicum teaches trainees how our company grows premium quality shade, flowering and specialty ornamental trees. Field trips to other nurseries give an overview of nursery production in Oregon, our state’s #1 agricultural crop!
Our 12-month internship program begins with a six-month rotation across all farms and departments that gives trainees a general overview of tree production. Farm assignments are made by the Production Manager and specific tasks determined by the Farm Manager. Learning and work assignments during the second phase of the program are based on the intern’s interests, abilities and special skills.
Excellent recreational opportunities
Applicants should possess or be working toward an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or a related field and have job experience working with plants.
Interns earn competitive wages while working 40 hours per week or more. Limited housing is available for out-of-area candidates.
Our convenient location midway between Portland and Mt. Hood provides excellent after-hours recreational and entertainment opportunities.
