Fresh fruits, plucked right from your own trees, are among the many joys of summer. Cultivating your own orchard is the perfect answer for health-conscious gardeners who wish to eat fresh, healthy and local. No room for an orchard? Check out our lineup of miniature peaches and nectarines. Their small mature size makes them a perfect fit for gardeners with limited planting space such as a side yard, a patio or courtyard. They perform well in containers and can be grown on a patio, porch or deck. Though small in stature, they produce bumper crops of juicy, sweet fruit. Six varieties are described below and on our Fruit Tree pages.
Pix Zee Miniature Peach
This petite fruit tree delivers big crops of large, firm, yellow, flavorful freestone peaches. Fruits ripen early–midseason to midseason. Orange skin is overlaid with a red blush. Chilling requirement of this self-fruitful peach is 400 hours or less. A vigorous grower as it reaches a mature height of about six feet, it can also be kept smaller via annual pruning. Either way, its compact size is perfect for container or courtyard culture. Performs best in USDA Zones 5-9.
Honey Babe Miniature Peach
Beneath its smooth, vibrant orange, red-blushed skin is juicy, tender flesh and perfect peach flavor. The freestone fruits of this heavy-bearing tree are sweet and juicy. Growing to about 5-6 ft. in height, it requires about 400 chilling hours, making it a good choice for warmer climates ranging from USDA Zone 6-9. Partially self-fruitful, it is best planted with a compatible peach or nectarine pollinizer.
Bonanza Miniature Peach
Bright pink flowers of early spring and long, slender green leaves of summer elevate this popular yellow freestone peach to ornamental edible stardom. Bonanza produces large, sweet, juicy fruits that are low in acid with a mild, refreshing flavor. Reaching only about 5-6 ft. in height, this miniature tree that produces big fruit is a perfect fit for containers and limited planting spaces such as courtyards and patio gardens. Suitable for growing in USDA Zones 6-10, its estimated chilling requirement is 250 or fewer hours below 45 °F.
Bonfire Miniature Peach
Showy, bright pink, double-petaled flowers and long slender purple foliage elevate this shrub-like peach to ornamental edible status. Its small stature makes it a perfect choice for container and patio plantings, or for lining a walkway with a low, informal hedge. Small, firm fruits are highly ornamental; best suited for baking, canning and pickling.
Nectar Babe Miniature Nectarine
Bite through the smooth, red-blushed orange skin of this freestone nectarine and discover sweet, juicy yellow flesh. The tasty fruit offers such a perfect balance of tangy and sugary flavors that you’ll want another! Heavy bearing, its fruits ripen midseason on a tree that matures to about 5-6 ft. Low chilling requirement of about 400 hours makes it a good choice for warmer climates. Bright pink flowers of early spring attract pollinators and add a delightful ornamental dimension. Performs best in USDA Zones 6-9.
Arctic Babe Miniature Nectarine
Bright pink blooms of early spring develop into delicious, juicy, white-fleshed fruits of summer. Self-fruitful, it requires 700 or fewer chilling hours.
